Klaus Kübler (politician)

Klaus Kübler (born April 21, 1936 in Stettin ; † December 7, 2007 in Heidelberg ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the German Bundestag .

Kübler studied law at the University of Tübingen from 1955 to 1959 and passed his first state examination in law in 1959. He passed his second state examination in law in 1965, and was also awarded a Dr. jur. PhD .

From 1965 to 1966 Kübler was a research assistant and then until 1970 advisor to the rector of the Ruhr University Bochum . Then he was Chancellor of Heidelberg University until 1977 and Vice President of the Federal Health Office in Berlin until 1980 .

At the age of 36, Kübler joined the SPD. Eight years later (1980) he moved into the German Bundestag as a direct candidate for the Bergstrasse constituency and worked there until 1992 - interrupted by a two-year break from 1987 to 1989. In the meantime he was sub-department head for the Federal Ministry for Youth, Family, Women and Health in Bonn.

Since 1996 he has been an independent lawyer and lecturer at the South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University. As a lawyer, he represented Donald Klein , among others , and campaigned for his release from Iranian custody.
