Klaus Nüchtern (born November 20, 1961 in Linz ) is an Austrian journalist .

Klaus Nüchtern studied English and German and graduated with a thesis on Hans Robert Jauß . Since 1989 he has been writing for the Viennese city newspaper Falter , where he headed the cultural department from 1990 to 2015. His popular weekly column "Soberly Viewed" (with a tapir lying on his back as his own mascot) is also published in book form. In autumn 2012 "Buster Keaton or the love of geometry" was published, a study of the silent films of the comedian and director Buster Keaton (1895–1966). In 2016, Nüchtern published a study on the Viennese writer Heimito von Doderer .

From 2004 to 2008, Nüchtern was a juror for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize . He writes u. a. for literatures and is a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society . He also runs the CD label Handsemmel Records . The album "code" (Handsemmel Records / cracked anegg) produced by him was awarded the Hans Koller Prize in 2009 in the "Album of the Year" category.
