Klaus-Gerd Hermann Neuhöfer (born November 27, 1940 in Bad Nauheim ) is a German conservationist . He is chairman of the Friends of the Spa Town Bad Nauheim eV and is known as the “savior of the graduation buildings”.

Life

After graduating from high school and some professional positions, he took over his parents' hotel in 1981. As an ice hockey player he played for VfL Bad Nauheim .

In 1993 Neuhöfer began to work intensively for his hometown Bad Nauheim . The trigger was the significant decline in the number of spa guests and the neglect of facilities at the state spa. In 1994 he founded the citizens' initiative against the sell-out and cannibalization of the Hessian state baths , and the sponsoring association was established a year later.

One of the first initiatives by Neuhöfer and his colleagues was the recultivation of the Goldsteinwäldchen. After that, the association focused on maintaining the graduation buildings , the existence of which was endangered by a lack of investment. Between the mid-1990s and 2005, politicians thought aloud several times about demolishing part of the five historic structures. The development association organized charity events, started fundraising campaigns and received an inheritance of 900,000 euros. In total, the association provided around 1.8 million euros for the graduation buildings. Above all, the preservation of Gradierbau I and its addition to an inhalation chamber are due to him. Neuhöfer also got involved in the repair of hikers' huts, for the recognition of Bad Nauheim as a Kneipp spa and for the construction of the weather house at the Dankeskirche. In September 1999, due to his initiative, the Bad Nauheim ice rink at the Kurpark was renamed after its builder Colonel Paul R. Knight . From 1998 to 2000 Neuhöfer was the 2nd chairman of the Art Nouveau Association Bad Nauheim and co-founder of the current association.

In 2002 he collected 6,000 signatures against the construction of a three-story Heyde AG office building on what is now the Kurparkplaza area. Neuhöfer also got involved in the process of municipalization of the Staatsbad, he sought contact with Finance Minister Karl Starzacher and tried to influence his home town.

He was awarded the honorary prize of the community foundation Ein Herz für Bad Nauheim . On September 8, 2005, the District Administrator of the Wetterau district, Rolf Gnadl, awarded him the certificate of honor for the exemplary monument conservation initiative for the preservation and renovation of the Bad Nauheim graduation buildings. On May 14, 2007, Klaus Neuhöfer was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by Federal President Horst Köhler . Since 2010, Klaus Neuhöfer has been committed to building the former windmill between graduation towers IV and V.

Klaus Neuhöfer is widowed and has two children.
