Klaus Rost (sports scientist)

Klaus Rost (* 20th century ) is a German sports scientist .

Life

Rost received his doctorate in 1974 at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , the title of his dissertation was “The development of a process for the selection of suitable young athletes for the training centers of the sport of athletics: a contribution to perfecting the content and organization of the selection for the 1 . Support level in the DVfL of the GDR on the basis of hypothetically standardized, physical and anthropometric selection criteria ”. In 1983 he completed his PhD B  (subject: "On basic questions of increasing the effectiveness of follow-up training in the long-term development of top athletic performance").

At the Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT) he was a research assistant in the Training Science section, then head of the Young Competitive Sport section and, from 2001, deputy to IAT Director Arndt Pfützner .

Rost's main research areas were young athletes, the promotion and development of young talents and, in these subject areas, aspects of talent spotting and selection, sports-oriented schools and long-term performance development.

Together with Dietrich Martin , Jürgen Nicolaus and Christine Ostrowski, Rost was one of the authors of the 1999 “Handbook for Children and Youth Training”.
