Klaus Schönert

Klaus Schönert (born June 18, 1927 in Döbeln ; † September 24, 2011 in Goslar ) was a German physicist and engineer . He was an expert in size reduction technology within mechanical process engineering and processing technology .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1946, Schönert completed an apprenticeship as a radio mechanic and worked for Siemens , among others . From 1950 he studied physics at the TH Karlsruhe with Hans Rumpf with his diploma in 1957 and received his doctorate there in 1966 in the faculty for mechanical engineering and process engineering (dissertation: single-grain pressure crushing and crushing kinetics: investigations on limestone, quartz, and cement clinker grains in the size range 0 , 1 to 3 mm ). As a post-doctoral student he spent two years in Berkeley and in 1970 he completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering in Karlsruhe (Habilitation thesis: Mathematical simulation of comminution processes in continuously operated mills ). Until 1981 he was managing director of the Institute for Mechanical Process Engineering in Karlsruhe and from 1981 professor for processing technology at the TU Clausthal . From 1989 to 1991 he was Dean of the Mining and Raw Materials Department.

He developed high pressure roller mills (High Pressure Grinding Rolls, HPGR), which brought considerable energy savings.

Klaus Schönert was also significantly involved as an author in the two-volume manual of mechanical process engineering published by Heinrich Schubert in 2003 .

In 2004 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Bergakademie Freiberg , with which he also worked closely. A prize from the ProcessNet specialist group for comminuting and classifying for final theses by students is named after Schönert.
