Klaus Schmidt (born October 21, 1967 in Graz ) is an Austrian football coach and physiotherapist .

Career

Schmidt had worked for Kapfenberger SV in their youth department from 1997 , before he was brought in by the Graz AK as a physiotherapist in the Bundesliga in summer 1999 . After six months he was promoted to assistant coach and filled this position until the club's license was revoked in 2007. This period includes an Austrian championship and three ÖFB Cup victories.

In the summer of 2007 he was hired by SK Austria Kärnten as assistant coach to Walter Schachner . After Schachner's departure from the bottom of the table at the time, Schmidt was appointed head coach on December 3, 2007. After four games, a new coach, Frenk Schinkels , was hired on February 24, 2008 and Schmidt was released. In May 2008 he was hired by SC Magna Wiener Neustadt as Helmut Kraft's assistant coach . After having only worked as a physiotherapist from the beginning of the spring championship in 2009, he left the club in summer 2009.

On November 10, 2012, he took over Kapfenberger SV, which was at risk of relegation at the time, and managed to stay in the league with a strong second half (3rd place). On June 6, 2014 he became the new coach of SV Austria Salzburg . On November 25, 2014, he became coach of the Tyrolean second division club FC Wacker Innsbruck . In May 2016, his contract was terminated prematurely.

In October 2016 he became coach of the second division club FC Blau-Weiß Linz , with whom he received a contract valid until the end of the season.

In June 2017 Schmidt took over the coaching position at Bundesliga club SCR Altach . After the 2017/18 season, the Altachers parted ways with Schmidt.

In August 2018 he became the coach of SV Mattersburg . In June 2019 Mattersburg separated from Schmidt, the Burgenlanders had finished the 2018/19 season in eighth place in the table.

In September 2019 he took over FC Admira Wacker Mödling, who was last placed at the time . Schmidt was given leave of absence in February 2020, when Admira was in eleventh place in the table.
