Klaus Schmidt (* 1941 ) is a German lawyer.

Career

Schmidt studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Würzburg . In 1965 he passed the first state examination in Würzburg and the second state examination in Mainz in 1969. During his legal clerkship, he received his doctorate summa cum laude in 1967 .

In 1972 he joined the judicial service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as a probationary judge at the Ludwigshafen Labor Court . In 1973 he was appointed judge at the labor court. In 1974 he moved to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Sport , being appointed to the government council . In 1975 he was appointed to the Upper Government Council.

In 1976 he came to the Rhineland-Palatinate State Labor Court . There he was appointed presiding judge in 1978. From 1989 until his retirement in August 2006, he was President of the State Labor Court.

Schmidt was co-founder, co-editor and academic editor of the leading German labor law journal “ Neue Zeitschrift für Arbeitsrecht ” (NZA) and made a name for himself as the author and publisher of various labor law books and the author of a large number of labor law specialist articles. From 1986 he also worked as honorary chairman of the first chamber of the ecclesiastical arbitration board of the Evangelical Church in Baden . In 1990 he was appointed honorary professor in recognition of the 20 years of scientific support and training for severely disabled people at the SRH University of Heidelberg .
