Schrotthammer devoted himself to alpine ski racing until he was 16 . In 2004 he competed in the Speed Ski World Cup for the first time, until 2007 he competed in all races in the downhill class (SDH). On his debut in the professional S1 class in Les Arcs, he immediately achieved a personal best of 217.52 km / h. In 2009 he took part in a world championship for the first time in Vars , but did not get beyond a 39th place. In the following seasons he improved continuously and celebrated his first World Cup victory on April 3, 2011 in Idre . In the 2012 season he won all five races and thus secured the overall World Cup for the first time. After a year without a win, he celebrated his second triumph in the overall World Cup in 2014 with four season wins. In his fourth World Cup participation in 2015, he was able to win the bronze medal behind the dominating Origone brothers. On March 26, 2016, he set a new Austrian record at the Speed Masters in Vars with 248.447 km / h. He beat the 17-year-old record set by Harry Egger from Tyrol by 0.342 km / h.
Schrottshammer is a trained banker and spends his free time skiing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, jogging and mountain biking.
