Klaus Schumacher (* 1965 in Unna ) is a German theater director and director of the Junge Schauspielhaus in Hamburg .

Life

Klaus Schumacher was born in Unna in 1965 and grew up in the Ruhr area. After graduating from high school and doing community service, he studied applied cultural sciences at the University of Hildesheim and graduated in 1992. Klaus Schumacher was one of the co-founders of the ASPIK theater during his studies, and gained experience as an actor and director. Klaus Schumacher was a member of the moks ensemble at the Bremen theater from 1995 to 2005 . From the 2000/2001 season until the end of the 2003/2004 season he was the artistic director of the children and youth theater »moks«, which under his direction was one of the most renowned children and youth theaters in German-speaking countries.

His productions of Cyrano and Playback Life am moks were subsequently invited to the Berlin Children's and Youth Theater Meeting. At the end of his work in Bremen, Klaus Schumacher was awarded the Kurt Huebner Prize . In 2003 he drew attention to himself with the staging of the Battle of the Negro and the Dogs by Bernard-Marie Koltès at the Stuttgart State Theater. This was followed by productions at the Hanover Theater (premiere of the theater version of the novel Inkheart by Cornelia Funke ) and at the Bremen Theater ( Das Fest by Thomas Vinterberg and Gentle and Cruel by Martin Crimp ). He also directed Kasimir and Karoline at the Stuttgart State Theater . Since the 2005/2006 season, Klaus Schumacher has headed the “Young Theater” division at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, which was newly founded when Friedrich Schirmer took over as artistic director . Here he has already staged Playback Life and tags differently, at night too , Cyrano after Edmond Rostand, Little Angels by Marco Baliani, Mother Africa and The Odyssey by Ad de Bont, a matter of honor by Lutz Hübner and "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare. In the years 2006–2011 he regularly stages plays for the large stage of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg ("Was ihr wollt" by William Shakespeare, "Performances - a story five truths" based on a script by Per Fly, "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, "The Golden Dragon" Roland Schimmelpfennig, "Job" after Joseph Roth)
