Klaus Seelemann

Klaus Seelemann (born May 31, 1915 in Oldenburg (Oldb) , † November 14, 1972 in Hamburg ) was a German pediatrician.

Life

As the son of a captain, Seelemann spent his youth in Kiel until 1930, then in Munich, where he graduated from high school in 1933. He studied medicine at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1934 he became active in the Corps Hercynia Munich . In 1939 he went to the children's clinic of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf as a medical assistant . There he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. In 1940 he volunteered for the Navy . He only interrupted his years of naval service once for a few months to complete his medical assistantship. In January 1946 he became an assistant doctor to Rudolf Degkwitz in the Eppendorfer Children's Clinic. In 1953 he completed his habilitation with Karl-Heinz Schäfer . In 1955 he took over the management of the Hamburg vaccination center . His urge for clinical work was met when he was appointed Medical Director of the Rothenburgsort Children's Hospital on May 1, 1960 . He took into account the specialization of pediatrics with the establishment of five departments. For many years he was editor-in-chief of the Northwest German Society for Pediatrics , of which he was president for a while.
