Klaus Wölfer

Klaus Wölfer (born April 5, 1956 ) is an Austrian diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1974 and studying law at the University of Vienna with a doctorate in 1979, Klaus Wölfer attended the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna until 1981 . Since then he has worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , including in 1983 as secretary at the Austrian embassy in Rome, then from 1986 in the same position in Belgrade (Yugoslavia), and for shorter periods from 1990 to 1991 in the Austrian representations in Budapest (Hungary) and in Zagreb (Croatia). Until 1995 he was in charge of the crisis area "Ex-Yugoslavia" as head of department. From 1996 to 2002 Klaus Wölfer headed the Austrian cultural institute in Rome and from 2002 to 2006 head of the section for art affairs in the Federal Chancellery . In this function he was responsible for a. the conception and overall organization of the conference “The Sound of Europe” (Salzburg, January 2006) as a prelude to the Austrian EU Council Presidency .

From 2007 to 2011, Wölfer was Bernhard Zimburg's extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Jakarta (Indonesia) and co-accredited for Singapore and East Timor as well as to ASEAN . In Jakarta, he was the client for the foreign ministry for the new building for the Austrian embassy, ​​the exemplary first Austrian ecological “Green Embassy”.

From 2012 to 2017 Klaus Wölfer was the Austrian ambassador in Ankara for Turkey . Since September 2017 he has been the head of the Department for Southeastern Europe and EU Enlargement at the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs , and since March 2019 he has also been Deputy Political Director (Section Head for Bilateral Affairs), Alexander Marschik.

Wölfer is married and has two children.
