from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klaus Wassermann (born November 28, 1947 ; † January 9, 2016 ) was a German civil engineer . He was considered a pioneer in building IT and facility management .

Life

Wassermann studied civil engineering at the TU Berlin from 1970 to 1974 . In 1974/75 he completed a graduate study at the US Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT . In Berlin he became a Dr.-Ing. With Peter Jan Pahl with a thesis on the shape optimization of weight and arch dams. PhD and in 1980 became a research assistant at the Battelle Institute in Frankfurt am Main. In 1983 he received a call to the new and established professorship for "EDP-supported design, calculation and construction in the building industry" at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern . From this he initiated the building informatics department. In 2001 he was the first in Germany to set up a university degree in facility management in Kaiserslautern. He retired in 2013.

The main teaching and research focus was numerics and probability calculation as well as finite elements from which he formed the main focus of object-oriented software modeling in construction. Together with mb Software im Bauwesen GmbH , he developed practical applications such as the structural analysis program MicroFe or, in cooperation with mb AEC Software GmbH, the architect software ViCADo , a forerunner of today's Building Information Modeling BIM applications.
