Peter Jan Pahl

Peter Jan Pahl (* 26. September 1937 in Saarbrücken ) is a German civil engineer and emeritus professors .

Life

Born in Saarbrücken in 1937, Peter Jan Pahl earned a Bachelor of Science from Stellenbosch University (South Africa) in 1958 , followed by a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1960. In 1961 he went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA for eight years . In 1963 he completed his studies with a Master of Science degree and received his doctorate in civil engineering a year later. Most recently he worked there as an associate professor. From 1969 to 2005 Peter Jan Pahl was university professor for theoretical methods in construction and traffic engineering at the TU Berlin .

He has made great contributions to the development of the field of building informatics . He recognized the importance of personal computers in the workplace of every engineer as early as the 1960s. What was a vision then is reality today. Not least because of its work, for example through the development of the information system for the construction industry , IT was able to achieve a high priority in this area.

Awards

He is an honorary doctor of the University of Stellenbosch and the Bauhaus University Weimar and a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) .
