Klaus Weimar

Klaus Weimar (born August 20, 1941 in Hamburg ) is a Swiss-German literary scholar and literary theorist . He is known for his work on the theoretical and methodological foundations and the history of German studies .

Life

Weimar studied German, theology and philosophy at the universities of Göttingen , Hamburg and Zurich from 1961 to 1967 . He received his doctorate in 1967 with Wolfgang Binder in Zurich and completed his habilitation there in 1974 with a thesis on literary hermeneutics . From 1969 to 1978 he was an assistant, then senior assistant at the University of Zurich. From 1978 he worked as a freelancer and taught until 2010 as a private lecturer (from 1982 as adjunct professor) at the University of Zurich. During this time he was also a lecturer in Munich and Friborg, substitute professor in Gießen, Göttingen, Tübingen and Konstanz, visiting professor at Indiana University in Bloomington and several times at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and visiting scholar at the Center for Literary Research in Berlin. In 2007, he was awarded the University of Hamburg , the honorary doctorate .

research

Weimar emerged primarily with work on the theoretical foundations of literary studies and the history of the discipline . In addition, poetry, especially that of Klopstock and Goethe, is a focus of his research.
