Klaus Werner Eichhorn

Klaus Werner Eichhorn (born July 18, 1938 in Darmstadt ; † January 6, 1994 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) was a German agricultural scientist, phytopathologist and vine protection expert.

Life

Eichhorn completed an apprenticeship as a winemaker, then attended the Veitshöchheim and Bad Kreuznach viticulture schools , graduated from high school, studied at the Hohenheim Agricultural University from 1963 and joined the Corps Germania Hohenheim . With a thesis on the yield structure and berry growth of the vines with Professor Gerhardt Alleweldt , he was promoted to Dr. sc. agr. PhD. After two years as an assistant in Hohenheim, Eichhorn began working on a research assignment at the state teaching and research institute for viticulture, fruit growing and horticulture in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in 1971. Prepare service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1973, when he was appointed to the Agriculture Council, he worked in the Phytomedicine Department of the Neustadt State Institute and in 1975 was entrusted with its management.

At the same time Eichhorn carried out a teaching assignment at the University of Kaiserslautern , which appointed him honorary professor in 1986. He was head of the vine protection service in Rhineland-Palatinate , took over the duties of chairman for vine protection at the Federal Biological Institute in Braunschweig and headed the plant protection working group in the German Viticulture Research Ring for many years . During this time, the "Description of the growth stages of the vines according to Eichhorn / Lorenz" was created, which was used as a standard in research and teaching for many years. Eichhorn has also written numerous essays on vine protection and was co-editor and co-author of the joint publication (Schirra / Eichhorn / Tretzel / Louis) "Integrated Plant Protection in Viticulture".
