These are ten joking variations on the art song Die Forelle by Franz Schubert , set for four-part mixed choir, with borrowings from the style and works of other well-known composers. The sheet music was published by Doblinger Verlag in Vienna. There is now an English-language version of the text (Trout As You Like It) , which z. B. in the USA, Japan and Australia is common.

In 1981 the composer and conductor Hans Werner Henze premiered Eight Attempts on a March as part of the Styrian Autumn. Topics from the Federal March were played by the Hönigsberg factory band and a Hamburg avant-garde ensemble.
