Klaus is dead is the first album by the punk rock band Swoons from Wolfhagen in Hesse . The debut, only released on CD, was released in 1992.

classification

Klaus is dead is a typical debut album. It was released just two years after the band was founded. The two singers Tina and Tanja went to school. The album was produced with the simplest of means and sounds accordingly naive, spontaneous and unfinished. The two singers and the primitive English in which the lyrics are written are particularly characteristic. The songs are simple and guitar-oriented and are reminiscent of bands like the Ramones or the early Blondie . Most of the pieces are quick and deal with light-hearted subjects.

Klaus is dead is dedicated to the late German actor Klaus Kinski .

The CD became known through the British radio DJ John Peel , who played two songs on the military broadcaster BFBS and read a long letter from the record label in which Wolfhagen, the hometown of the Swoons, was referred to as the German Seattle . Seattle is the hometown of then very influential grunge bands like Nirvana or Pearl Jam .

Klaus is dead is very different from later releases by the band, which often lack the fun and spontaneity of the debut.

Booklet

In the booklet there are profiles of the individual band members. In the style of the youth magazine Bravo , they answer more or less serious questions about their favorite animals or favorite drinks. On the CD itself there is a recipe that is also not meant to be taken seriously.
