Klaus Bernhard von Storch Krüger (born February 20, 1962 in Osorno , Chile ) is a former officer in the Chilean Air Force , space engineer and astronaut candidate.

Von Storch was a fighter pilot in the Chilean Air Force.

In 1992 von Storch was selected as an astronaut candidate by the Chilean space agency Agencia Chilena del Espacio along with three other candidates. At the end of the 1990s he was involved in the scientific supervision of several space shuttle flights. In 2002 von Storch was selected for the first space flight with Chilean participation. Due to the crash of the Columbia space shuttle in February 2003, however, the plans were not realized.

The Chilean space agency turned to Russia for a place on board a Soyuz spacecraft . A corresponding agreement was signed during a visit by Russian President Putin to Chile in 2004. In contrast to the Brazilian Marcos Pontes , who was in a comparable situation and was able to take off with Soyuz TMA-8 in March 2006 , von Storch was not assigned a flight.

Von Storch is vice president of the non-profit organization Astrochile .

He is the leader of the Angelicum Chile group , which participates in the Google Lunar X-Prize .

Private

Von Storch is married and has two children. Klaus von Storch is the brother of Sven von Storch and thus the brother-in-law of Beatrix von Storch ( AfD ).
