Oskar Voss

Oskar Voss (born December 28, 1907 in Wolgast ; † June 26, 1944 in the Hamburg remand prison ) was a German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism and victims of National Socialism .

Life

Voss came from a simple social background in the small town of Wolgast in Western Pomerania . After attending primary school, he learned the trade of a locksmith and worked as a shunter . Later he went to Hamburg , where he found a job as a machinist at the Howaldts works . He joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and was active against the emerging National Socialism . After the transfer of power to the NSDAP in 1933, he continued this activity illegally . Since the formation of the " Bästlein-Jacob-Abshagen " resistance group , he worked in a leading position in organizing aid for foreign forced laborers and political education among the workers. When the Gestapo became aware of this, he and his comrade Alfons Hartmann were arrested and taken to the Fuhlsbüttel police prison . He and numerous others were tried in May 1944 in the criminal justice building on Sievekingplatz by the Second Senate of the People's Court under People's Court Councilor Günther Löhmann in the so-called " Hamburg Communist Trial ". On June 26, 1944, ten resisters were executed with the guillotine in the remand prison in Holstenglacis : Erich Heins , Karl Kock , Hans Köpke , Otto Mende , Ernst Mittelbach , Walter Reber , Wilhelm Stein , Paul Thürey , Kurt Vorpahl and Oskar Voss.
