Paul Thürey

Paul Thürey (born July 16, 1903 in Hamburg ; † June 26, 1944 there ) was a German mechanical engineer , communist and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

Life

Paul Thürey grew up with three older siblings in Hamburg's Rosenstrasse 17. After graduating from primary school, he learned the trades locksmith and mechanical engineer . Already during his apprenticeship he became a member of the DMV and the socialist workers' youth movement. From 1920 he was a member of the KPD , from 1922 also as a functionary of the agitprop department of the Hamburg KPD. He only found gainful employment temporarily at Deutsche Werft and at other shipyards and mechanical engineering companies in Hamburg.

In 1933 he married Magda Bär , with whom he opened a soap shop, which became an important link of the Bästlein-Jacob-Abshagen group in the resistance against National Socialism at the beginning of the Second World War .

In 1939 he got another job in the armaments company Conz-Elektromotoren-Werke in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld , where he had also done his training. There he became shop steward for the metal industry group of the German Labor Front and, from 1940, the main contact of the resistance movement to this company.

On the night of October 20-21, 1942, he was arrested by the Gestapo . He was sentenced to death in the Hamburg communist trial and beheaded on June 26, 1944 together with Erich Heins , Karl Kock , Hans Köpke , Otto Mende , Ernst Mittelbach , Walter Reber , Wilhelm Stein , Kurt Vorpahl and Oskar Voss in the Hamburg remand prison.
