Klein Mühlen (also Klein-Mühlen; nd. Lutke Möhlen ) was a settlement in what is now the area of the city of Bad Schwartau (district Rensefeld ), which had developed around a water mill on the dammed Clever Au . The dam of the mill pond , which still exists today, was raised at a ford through the Clever Au.

The settlement belonged to the village of Rensefeld, but was about a kilometer away and developed into a craft settlement. From 1900 onwards, Klein Mühlen was increasingly enclosed by the growing Schwartau , Rensefeld and Cleverbrück and has grown together with them today.

history

The mill on the Clever Au was first mentioned in documents in 1287, when it passed, together with half of the village of Rensefeld, from the ownership of the Lübeck St. John's Monastery (located in the Cismar Monastery ) to the ownership of the Lübeck Bishop Burkhard von Serkem .

The name "Klein Mühlen" ("Lutke Möhlen") was first used in the time of Bishop Nikolaus II. Sachau (1439–1449).

The mill was operated, among other things, as a flour mill - so the residents of Schwartau and Cleve were required to grind after Klein Mühlen .

The use of water power led to the settlement of numerous craftsmen. In 1634, 24 cloth makers are documented who used the mill as a fulling mill . In 1819 there were 13 craftsmen in Klein Mühlen.

In 1852 a windmill - which existed until the First World War - was added to the mill on the nearby Windberg.

After the First World War, the mill was converted to electrical operation. After the end of the Second World War , the mill was given up.

The mill buildings were demolished in the early 1970s - a residential complex was built in their place.
