The company Klein Modellbahn GesmbH was an Austrian manufacturer of model trains . The company was founded in 1984 by Oskar Klein junior as a result of the division of the Kleinbahn company. The company headquarters and production were in Vienna , Atzgersdorf . The company was dissolved in 2010.

Product range

The product range included locomotives and rolling stock in nominal size H0 ( gauge 16.5 mm) for the two-wire direct current system as well as model railroad accessories. Initially, the range of items from the product range of the original Kleinbahn company , which were more geared towards robust gaming operations, soon began with the production of finely detailed models for the "serious" model railroader. Since the new company is primarily oriented towards the Austrian market, models based on the Austrian railways were preferred . As with Kleinbahn , it was only sold through its own stores and by post ( direct sales ). As an alternative to the self-made rails and catenary material, products from other manufacturers were also sold.

Models

In addition to the typical electric locomotives and diesel locomotives offered in the early years for use by the BBÖ and ÖBB , the program was subsequently expanded to include models of steam locomotives based on Austrian designs. In addition to these steam locomotives, passenger and freight wagons were manufactured according to suitable historical models, including a. the 1948 built two- and four-axle ÖBB Spantenwagen and commuter double-deck cars of the ÖBB with push-pull train control, since 1995 manufactured. The ÖBB series 4020, electric multiple units for local traffic and S-Bahn operations , was also offered in the model; Another special feature was an ÖBB steam snow blower with a functioning blower wheel.

In the 1990s, insufficiently supplied zincal alloys repeatedly led to complaints about bent vehicle frames , which made the models unusable. According to the company, these alloys were later no longer used. In addition to manufacturing for its own product line, Klein Modellbahn also worked as a sub-supplier for other model railway manufacturers for a number of years .

Decline

Like the Austrian manufacturer Roco, the manufacturer ran into financial difficulties in 2006. However, by moving to a new production facility and streamlining the range of models, the company's continued existence seemed to be secured for the time being. At the end of May 2008, however, the company unexpectedly announced that it would finally cease production in July 2008 and close the shops from October 2008 until the end of 2008 at the latest. Parts of the program will be continued by Roco . The last remaining shop in Vienna was expanded as a specialist shop and offered other third-party products. On December 11, 2010, the company stated on its homepage that " due to legal problems with the company (Roco) Modelleisenbahn Ges.mbH, Klein Modellbahn Ges.mbH will cease operations forever in the next few days ".

Succession

In 2010, Oskar Klein founded the KkMB-Magazin as a sole proprietorship, which now continues the business from Vienna-Meidling . The focus of the merchandise is on models from Era I (vehicles based on the model of the Imperial and Royal State Railways ). In addition to the sale of products from Heris Modelleisenbahn and Mobenzo , we also offer spare parts, repairs and modifications for small models. The company has a shop and is also active in shipping and on model railway exchanges.
