The Kleine Renne is a designated natural monument , small side gorge, through which the Kleine Renne brook flows, the Steinerne Renne near Hasserode in the Harz low mountain range in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt .

Geographical location

The Kleine Renne is located in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It extends west-southwest of the Wernigerode district of Hasserode in a wooded section of the valley of the Kleine Renne between the Großer Birkenkopf ( 664.1  m ) in the west, the Kleiner Birkenkopf ( 590.8  m above sea  level ) in the northwest, the Bielstein (approx.  525  m ) in the northeast and the Hippeln ridge with the Kontorberg ( 556.1  m ) in the southeast.

The stream of the same name, Kleine Renne, runs here with numerous small waterfalls over many granite rocks down into the Holtemme valley , which in turn flows through the Steinerne Renne gorge . The confluence with the Holtemme is 395  m above sea level.

hike

A marked hiking trail, which was reactivated at the beginning of the 1990s, runs steeply up directly in the valley of the Kleine Renne and meets the former road to the Waldgasthaus and Hotel Steinerne Renne .
