Susanne Schüssler (* 1962 in Munich ) is a German publisher .

Life

education

Schüssler studied German language and literature , communication studies and publishing law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Before starting her studies, she completed a traineeship at Carl Hanser Verlag and then worked there as a working student . She did internships in publishing in New York and Paris. In 1991 she completed her studies with a doctorate.

Worked for the Klaus Wagenbach publishing house

Schüssler began working for the Klaus Wagenbach publishing house in Berlin in 1991 . In 2000 she took over the management of the publishing house. She has also been the publisher's director since 2002 and the sole shareholder since 2015. She is the editor of various anthologies, such as the continuation of "Vaterland, Mutterssprach" (1994), Djuna Barnes' "Behind the Heart" (1996), "SALTO 100" (2001), "Berlusconi's Italy - Italy versus Berlusconi" (2002) , “Good morning, beautiful ones! Leadership style

After taking over the publishing house, she started the new Politics at Wagenbach series in 2008 . Private life

Schüssler has been married to Klaus Wagenbach since 1996 . In 1997 a daughter was born. She works on a voluntary basis in the Erich Fried Society , as well as a member of the administrative board of VG Wort (spokeswoman for the professional group of public publishers) and as a member of the board of trustees of the Florence Art History Institute / Max Planck Institute.

Awards

In January 2012 Susanne Schüssler was appointed Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for her special merits in promoting and disseminating Italian culture. In 2018 she was named Publisher of the Year .
