The Little Dictionary of Politics is a since 2001 in Beck's series of the publisher CH Beck in Munich by the political scientist Dieter Nohlen , Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg , and Florian Grotz , Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg , out given Political science specialist lexicon in paperback format.

In October 2015, the sixth, revised and expanded edition of the lexicon was published with 323 articles by 160 authors on 799 pages. There was cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education and various regional agencies for political education , which offer the work as a licensed edition .

The lexicon is the successor to the dictionary State and Politics published by Dieter Nohlen at the time , which was published in 1991 and 1995 (two editions) by Piper Verlag . Another point of reference is the seven-volume Lexicon for Politics, published from 1992 to 1998 by CH Beck and edited by Dieter Nohlen and Rainer-Olaf Schultze, University of Augsburg . The Small Encyclopedia of Politics sees itself today as an “extract” from this encyclopedia.

In 2001, the reviewer of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung registered a "greater consideration of the European level".
