The small- pore verdigris cup ( Chlorociboria aeruginascens ) is a hose fungus that can be found on rotten hardwood lying on the ground .

features

The often short-stalked fruiting bodies have 3–5 (-10) mm wide cups, which are often deformed. They are blue-green in color, the disc can be lighter. The asci are eight-pore and contain spindle-shaped spores in an irregular two-line arrangement ; these are 5–8 (-10) µm long and approx. 1.5–2 µm in diameter. The fungus gets its color from the dye xylindeine , which is found both in the fruiting bodies and in the mycelium . The dye remains in the wood even after it dies. Therefore one speaks here of a "green rot", but it is only a color variant of the white rot .

Occurrence and likelihood of confusion

The small-pored Grünspanbecherling occurs on lying musty hardwood, often on oak or beech wood , but also on other species that have a characteristic blue-green discoloration inside and out. Developed fruiting bodies only come to light when there is high humidity; when it is dry, they shrink. The fungus is widespread in the northern hemisphere, occurs sparsely in Germany, and is common in the Atlantic area.

The small- pore verdigris ( Chlorociboria aeruginascens ) can only be distinguished microscopically from the large- pore verdigris ( Chlorociboria aeruginosa ) (spore size 8–15 µm long and 2–4 µm in diameter). The small-pore species is more common in Northern and Central Europe. The mushroom shown was not identified beyond the genus.

use

The greenish-blue wood was used for inlay work during the Renaissance . The dye, xylindeine, is fairly lightfast in wood.
