Historical
Like Neum, Klek belonged to the medieval Kingdom of Bosnia , then to the Republic of Dubrovnik and later to the Ottoman Empire .
During the Second World War , the region was part of the Independent State of Croatia . From 1945 to 1992 Klek belonged to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina within the State of Yugoslavia ( Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ).
Border discussions
The tip of the island ( "Cape Rep Kleka" ) in the northwest of the peninsula is located directly opposite the eponymous village of Klek in Croatia. Here the border ran through the peninsula, 1700–1805 between Ottoman Bosnia and the Republic of Venice , 1815–1918 with Austria-Hungary . The controversial border there was last determined in 1999 in the course of negotiations on the Neum Corridor .
