Klemens Gsell
Klemens Gsell (born June 19, 1961 in Nuremberg ) was the third mayor of the city of Nuremberg from 2003 to 2020 .
Professional career
After graduating from the New Gymnasium , he studied law at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen . He completed his studies with a doctorate. After working as a lawyer, he applied to the Bavarian Finance Administration as a tax auditor and speaker at the regional tax office. From 2001 he was a judge at the finance court.
Political career
During his high school years he was a student representative and, among other things, worked in the student union . In the Junge Union he rose to the position of city chairman in Nuremberg. He held various offices in the CSU . For a long time he was chairman of the Fischbach branch. He is currently the deputy district chairman.
In 1990 he became a member of the Nuremberg city council and environmental policy spokesman for the CSU city council group for the first time. After the 1996 elections, he was elected group leader. On June 4, 2003, the CSU and SPD elected him the second additional mayor behind Lord Mayor Ulrich Maly . He held this office from October 2003 to April 2008 with the Environment Division. As mayor of the environment, his focus was on cleanliness, energy competence and climate protection, as well as the integration of the railway areas into the urban biotope network.
One of his political concerns is the creation of an “ecological rent index ”. The landlord should be given the opportunity to increase the basic rent if he has successfully reduced the ancillary costs through energy renovation and emission reduction. He would also like to buy low-emission company cars for the city administration. When Deutsche Bahn reallocates areas that become free , it is important to him to maintain the biotope network .
In 2008 , Klemens Gsell ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Nuremberg, but had to admit defeat to incumbent Mayor Maly with 27.4%. This achieved 64.3%.
Since May 2008 Klemens Gsell was again in office as the second additional mayor, but now with the school division.
This term of office as mayor ended on April 30, 2020.
Klemens Gsell is married and has three children. He lives in the Nuremberg district of Moorenbrunn . Since 1980 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Gothia Erlangen.
