Frieder W. Bergner

Frieder W. Bergner (* 1954 in Zwickau ) is a German trombone player .

Career

Bergner, brother of the Saxon-Anhalt politician Christoph Bergner , received his first musical training in the church choir of the Thuringian Boys' Choir, later he received piano lessons and played the trombone at the age of 17. After graduating from high school, he studied trombone with Hans Hombsch at the Dresden University of Music (1974–1978) , and received jazz training with Günter Hörig . After a brief engagement in the Pirna Symphony Orchestra , he was a trombonist in the Leipzig Radio Dance Orchestra (1978–1985) and a jazz musician in various groups, some of whom were his own.

His works are compositional works and arrangements in the genres of jazz , pop , rock and chamber music for theater and radio, among others. From 1979 to 1990 he had a teaching position, then until 1996 a guest professorship as the leader of the big band at the Weimar University of Music .

Bergner plays a wide variety of music styles from jazz to rock to contemporary concert music in a wide variety of formations from solo to large orchestra.

Among other things, he forms a duo with Silke Gonska .
