Michael Schulz (born July 8, 1963 in Dresden ) is a German jazz musician , saxophonist and composer .

Schulz plays contemporary jazz as a saxophonist. In addition to his trio and the Blue Tune project, his field of activity also includes independent solo improvisations. In his projects he mainly plays with Andreas Gundlach , Erika Bosse or Jochen Aldinger on piano and with Ulli Niedermüller or Matthias Macht on drums .

Further collaborations took place with Annette Jahns , Frieder W. Bergner , Fred Van Hove , Conny Bauer , Hannes Zerbe , Manfred Hering and Hagen Gebauer in jazz, with Wolfgang Hilbig , Norbert Eisold , Wolfgang Dehler , Wolfgang Zander , Christian Hussel , Fritz Rudolf Fries and Andreas Körner in the musical-literary border area as well as with Angela Hampel , Petra Kasten and Volker Lenkeit in the fine arts. Schulz also wrote music about well-known visual artists such as Picasso, Beuys, Feininger and performed them.

In 2007 he received an art award from the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation and dedicated himself to the joints by Lyonel Feininger . In the same year the work was performed as part of the Quedlinburg Music Summer, in the Meißner Dom u. a. The publication in front of the pictures appeared at the concert . Feininger with essays by Mathias Bäumel and Norbert Eisold and a film by Andreas Körner . His concert program for “Borderline. Schulz und Schlagzeuger ”he played in a duo with various national and international drummers.

Schulz has made guest appearances in Korea , Japan , Italy , France , Sweden , the USA , the Czech Republic , Austria and Switzerland . His music has also been used as film score in documentaries. He has lived in Mexico City since 2013, where he teaches at the Colegio Aleman . His trio tours Mexico and the USA under the name CSR with Carlos Cavez (dr) and Victor Rincon (b).
