Klimow (company)
Klimow ( Russian ФГУП - Завод имени В.Я. Климова / FGUP - Sawod imeni W.Ja. Klimowa ) is a Russian company that primarily develops and produces aircraft engines and gas turbines and is part of Rostec . It is named after Vladimir Jakowlewitsch Klimov , who headed the OKB-117 design office from 1935 and played a key role in the company's development. The seat and only plant is Saint Petersburg .
history
The company was founded in 1914 as a joint venture between the Russian state and Renault and manufactured motor vehicles and aircraft engines under license. In the 1930s, motorcycles and tank engines were initially manufactured, before the development of our own aircraft engines based on the Hispano-Suiza 12Y , which was manufactured under license as the Klimow M-100, began in 1935 .
During the Second World War , the Klimow M-105 , which was available from August 1939, was manufactured, an engine type that was used in numerous Soviet fighter aircraft . After the end of the war at the beginning of the jet engine era , it was possible to develop a competitive turbojet engine based on British developments with the Klimow WK-1 . After Klimov's death, Sergei Isotov took over the management of the design office. Under him, the Klimow GTD-350 , Klimow TW2-117 and Klimow TW3-117 wave turbines were developed in the 1960s, which powered a number of Soviet helicopters.
The Klimow RD-33 , developed in the 1980s, is used to drive the MiG-29 . During this time, with the Klimow GTD-1000 T, a gas turbine for tank propulsion was also brought to series production. The Klimow TW7-117 propeller turbine was developed and manufactured for the Ilyushin Il-114 in the 1990s . At the same time, the production of modular small power plants based on gas turbines was also started. These wave turbines are also intended for boats, locomotives and large trucks in open-cast mining.
Some new developments are currently being carried out. Klimow also takes over the supply of the delivered engines with spare parts and carries out the service. The company is now the national market leader for aircraft and helicopter engines.
