The Klohäuschen an der Großmarkthalle is a small building with a hipped roof at the west gate of the Großmarkthalle Munich in the Sendling district of Munich . It is located on Thalkirchner Straße opposite the confluence with Oberländerstraße. In it is a former standing urinal that is currently used for art events.

history

The building, which is now a listed building, was built in the early to mid-20th century as a men's toilet for staff and customers of the directly adjacent wholesale market hall. It was closed in the 1970s and remained unused for over 20 years. Plans to convert it into a generator house were discussed.

use

Since 2009, exhibitions , installations and performances of contemporary and experimental art have been taking place in the room with the urinals, which has an area of ​​around eight square meters, as part of the “Measures to enliven the outhouse at the wholesale market hall” . These took led by Anja Uhlig an art project called Reality office of Klohäuschens to, rented it and organized since the actions in cooperation with the Gallery of Roit and GalerieLa , being highlighted as a goal, "the outhouse accessible to use again, his Beauty visible and [to] bring it to life ”. The outhouse is only accessible on special occasions, otherwise you can usually see the interior through the glazed entrance door, whereby the hours after dark are particularly suitable due to the lighting conditions.

Several times during the week the little house is the meeting point for customers of the Münchner Tafel .
