Knock day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The knocking day (or knocking day ) is an old custom in southern Germany ( Swabia )

On this day, at the beginning of Advent , children go from house to house, knock on the door and recite a little poem or a saying. They usually ask for sweets, apples, oranges and the like. The day often falls on a Thursday.

The origin of the knocker's day relates to the “ Rorate ” (Catholic morning mass) held in Advent . This mass was already held at 6 a.m. and so that no one could oversleep, people were woken up by a knock on the front door. As a thank you there was a small reward.
