The Barzelles Monastery (Barzella; Notre-Dame de Barzelle) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Poulaines in the Indre department , Center-Val de Loire region , in France , around 5 km east of Valençay .
history
The monastery was founded in 1137/1138 with the help of Hugues de Barzelles as a daughter monastery of Le Landais monastery , a daughter of L'Aumône monastery from the filiation of Cîteaux monastery . In 1315 the never prosperous monastery was devastated and in 1547 it fell into the future . The first abbot was Jean d'Étampes. During the French Revolution in 1791 the monastery came to an end, which was subsequently demolished. Today it is a horticultural company.
Buildings and plant
The barrel vaulted sacristy and the armarium , the closing wall of the north transept of the church and part of the monks' hall are partially preserved . The church of Poulaines keeps the choir stalls .
