history
The monastery was founded around 1117 (or 1121) in Mazerolles according to the Benedictine rule for hermits and soon became the priory of Dalon monastery , with which it joined the Cistercian order in 1162 in the filiation of the Pontigny primary abbey. The abbey received numerous endowments from local landlords. The church was consecrated in 1232. A keep typical of the area was built in the 15th century. The monastery had a grangie in Aubeterre in the Bourbonnais . In the Hundred Years' War and by the Huguenots , it was looted. A restoration took place in the 17th century. During the French Revolution it was dissolved, partially destroyed and then sold.
