Dramburg Monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monastery Dramburg was a convent of the Franciscan Order in Pomerania , today Drawsko Pomorskie, east in the former Brandenburg . It existed from the 14th to the 16th centuries.

location

The monastery was located within the city wall in the southwest corner of the new town. The Klosterstrasse later reminded of its existence. Nothing is left of the system. The primary school is located on the site today.

history

The monastery was first mentioned in 1375. It probably didn't exist in 1350. It belonged to the custody of Stettin of the order province of Saxony ( Saxonia ) and was then located in Neumark in Brandenburg and in the diocese of Cammin .

Little news has been received about the story. In 1375 it was determined that the monastery had to pay a stag to the bishop every year and that a weekly mass was to be held in the von Wedel family's chapel on their estate.

Before 1509, the monastery adopted the Martinian Constitutions , which were of a moderate interpretation of the vows of poverty ; since 1520 it belonged to the Martinian order province of St. John the Baptist ( Saxonia S. Johannis Baptistae ).

The monastery was probably closed around 1537 when the Reformation was introduced in Neumark . In 1538 the Franciscan Faustinus Schliepe was the first Protestant preacher in Dramburg.

In 1557 the monastery became the property of Joachim von Wedel and then changed hands several times. In 1844 the city school was built on the site.

economy

The monastery owned little land near Dramburg and Woltersdorf, which was leased. It had several appointments , at least one of which was outside the diocese of Kammin.
