history
The monastery, a Benedictine foundation from 1135, joined the Cistercian order in 1147. Mother monastery was Monastery of Sobrado , which Monfero the filiation of the Branch Clairvaux belongs. In the 16th century the monastery was attached to the Castilian Cistercian congregation. It was destroyed by lightning in the 17th century and then rebuilt in the Baroque style. In 1805 the church was damaged by lightning. The monastery came to an end in 1835 when the Mendizábal government was abolished .
Buildings and plant
The current system is essentially from the 17th century. The single-nave church in the shape of a Latin cross has a generous baroque facade with four half pilasters, which are characterized by an inlaid pattern made of slate plates. The main baroque altar dates from 1666. The church houses four Gothic graves of the de Andrade family . The cloister is located south (right) of the church. Only one of the three cloisters of the monastery has remains of the Romanesque complex.
