The Pásztó Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in today's Pásztó municipality in Nógrád County in Hungary .

history

The monastery was founded in 1190 or 1191 by King Béla III. Founded as a subsidiary of the Pilis Monastery from the affiliation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . It actually came to an end in 1544 after the land was occupied by the Turks. After 1814 the legal association with the Zirc monastery took place .

Buildings and plant

The foundations of the medieval monastery have been preserved. The church had three aisles, the pillars between the central nave and side aisles are marked by trees. The naves seem to have been closed by semicircular apses, which were later elongated rectangular. The enclosure was to the right of the church, and foundations of it have also been preserved. To the east, partially covering the east wing of the enclosure, is a large, probably post-medieval building (possibly from 1715).
