San Benedetto di Monte Favale Monastery was a Cistercian abbey in Marche , Italy . It was located around 5 km northwest of Pesaro in the province of Pesaro-Urbino , on a hill of around 200 m above sea level, known from ancient times as Monte Fabale and now called Colle Adriatico.

history

At the site of the later abbey was a hermitage, which in 1224 with the consent of Pope Honorius III. passed on to the hermits of St. Wilhelm von Vercelli . In 1255 the Wilhelmites of Monte Fabale joined the Cistercian order and submitted to the Chiaravalle d'Ancona monastery , which, as the daughter of Lucedio monastery, belonged to the filiation of the La Ferté primary abbey . The incorporation into the Cistercian order took place in 1256. At the general chapter of 1270 the abbot of the monastery was deposed because he had not attended the general chapter for years. The abbey soon took the name of Santa Croce di Monte Fabale . The Church of San Eracliano in Pesaro was dependent on the monastery. In the 15th century, the abbey, whose decline had begun around 1400, fell into Kommende . Commendatabbts were initially the bishops of Pesaro, later various dignitaries, most recently Cardinal Torregiani, who died in 1778. In the time of the Coming, the abbey, abandoned by the Cistercians, fell into disrepair. Only the street name Badia (a cross street of Strada di San Colomba) reminds of it.

Plant and buildings

Apart from scattered stones, no remains of the monastery have survived.
