Valvisciolo Monastery (Latin Prioratus simplex BMV Vallis Lusciniae ) has been a Cistercian monastery since 1167 in Sermoneta , Province of Latina , Region of Latium , Diocese of Latina-Terracina-Sezze-Priverno in Italy.

history

The monastery of Marmosoglio , destroyed by Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa , moved in 1167 to Valvisciolo near Sermoneta (50 km southeast of Rome) and was first called the abbey "Nuovo Marmosiglio", later also "Valvisciolo Carpinetana", after Carpineto Romano . 1312 the abbey was abandoned in a 1411 Coming and 1523 in a priory transformed. From 1605 until it was closed by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1807, it was occupied by the Feuillanten (in between from 1619 to 1635 the Paulaner ). Pope Pius IX had the monastery restored and repopulated in 1864 by the Casamari Abbey , to whose congregation it still belongs to this day. Peugniez praises the beauty of the buildings that have been preserved from the 13th century (especially the church and cloister).
