Vierzehnheiligen Monastery is a Franciscan monastery near the Vierzehnheiligen basilica near Bad Staffelstein .

history

In 1839 the Franciscans of the Bavarian Order Province (today the German Franciscan Province ) were commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to take care of the pilgrimage church . From 1744 to the secularization of 1803, the Cistercians looked after the pilgrims.

In addition to the Franciscan monastery, there is also the mother house of the St. Francis Sisters of Vierzehnheiligen . In 1890, Father Dr. Peter Natili founded a home nursing association in Munich, which later joined the Third Order of St. Francis and moved its headquarters to Vierzehnheiligen. In 1921 this community was recognized by the church.

Monastery study

The Franciscan Sisters took part in the monastery study . According to the results, nuns and women of the general population live almost equally long, closely followed by monks , who have an average life expectancy of one to two years shorter than both groups of women. Well behind are men of the general population who live an average of six years shorter than nuns and women of the general population and up to four and a half years shorter than monks.
