The Kluskapelle is a Romanesque chapel in Giershagen , a district of Marsberg . As Klus refers to a hermitage .

The chapel is located about 1.5 km to the north-west of Giershagen on an old cemetery. It is the remainder of the Niederupsprunge settlement, which fell into desolation in the 16th century .

The core of the building dates from the middle of the 12th century. The original structure has a single nave with a square west tower. The tower is made of shell limestone and is not plastered. On the south side of the tower there is a portal with a tympanum .

The nave and the adjoining choir are plastered in white. The windows of the older part are small. In the newer part, the arched windows are larger. The buttresses are not plastered. On the south side of the nave there is an entrance with a pointed arch and a rounded figural niche. The entrance in the north is walled up.

The ground floor of the tower has a cross vault. The church interior itself has a flat roof. The walls are plastered and unadorned. In the old Romanesque part, the simple wooden ceiling was replaced by a stucco beam ceiling in 1935.

In 1682 the chapel was extended to the east by a square yoke and a 3/8 choir closure. This part is vaulted by a cross vault with an octagonal keystone with vine leaves .

The Giershagen sculptor Heinrich Papen made the altar from limestone, alabaster and Gierhagen marble . The oak pulpit shows the four evangelists seated. After the exterior renovation has largely been completed, an interior renovation is currently being carried out (May 2011).

The church is a patronage building of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The country's construction load obligations are one hundred percent.
