(3012) Minsk is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on August 27, 1979 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).
The asteroid was named on July 2, 1985 after Minsk , the capital of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic . The asteroid (2170) Byelorussia was named after the Soviet republic in 1980 .
