Knappensee , Hórnikečanski Jězor in Upper Sorbian , was a municipality in Saxony from 1995 to 2004 , southeast of the city of Hoyerswerda . It was named after the Knappensee , on the south bank of which it was located. After the Hoyerswerda district was dissolved, it had been in the Kamenz district since January 1, 1996 . Since the district reform of Saxony in 2008 , all three places have been located in the enlarged Bautzen district .

The community was created on October 1, 1995 from the merger of the communities Groß Särchen , Koblenz and Wartha . Nine years later, the community was dissolved on January 1, 2005. The districts of Groß Särchen and Koblenz remained in the district of Kamenz and were incorporated into the municipality of Lohsa . The district of Wartha was incorporated into the municipality of Königswartha in the Bautzen district. With the dissolution of the municipality, the administrative community Wittichenau, to which the city of Wittichenau and the municipality of Knappensee belonged, was also dissolved.

At the end of 1995 the community had 1910 inhabitants. This number rose continuously to 2100 by the end of 2000, after which it fell to 2041 inhabitants by the end of 2004.
