history

Local history

The place was first mentioned in 1374 in connection with a Petir von der Warte. The manor was first mentioned in 1557.

After the Congress of Vienna , the Prussian - Saxon border ran from 1815 to 1945 directly at the Warthaer Gut at the south-western end of the village, whereby the place itself belonged to Prussia.

Up until September 30, 1995, Wartha was an independent rural community. Then it was merged with Groß Särchen and Koblenz to form the municipality of Knappensee . This was dissolved on January 1, 2005. Wartha came to Königswartha and at the same time from the district of Kamenz to the district of Bautzen, the other two districts to Lohsa .

population

The last population data for the independent municipality of Wartha indicate 435 inhabitants for 1990. In 1885 the place had 294 inhabitants. Since reunification, the population has fallen by around 14%; the municipality of Königswartha has 375 residents for 2008.

According to the statistics of Arnošt Muka , the place had a total of 306 inhabitants in 1884, 301 of them Sorbs and five Germans. Ernst Tschernik determined a Sorbian-speaking population of 53.1% in 1956. Since then, the use of Sorbian has continued to decline sharply.

religion

Wartha has been parish to Königswartha since the 16th century. The last information on religious affiliation comes from 1925. At that time, 257 of the 296 inhabitants were Evangelical Lutheran (87%).

The numerous ponds in the area around Wartha are used for fish farming.
