Niesendorf , Niža Wjes in Upper Sorbian , is a place in the East Saxon district of Bautzen and has been part of the Königswartha municipality since 1936 . The place is located in Upper Lusatia and is part of the Sorbian settlement area .

The German place name is derived from the Sorbian, which denotes the lower or lower village .

geography

Niesendorf is located about 15 kilometers northwest of the large district town of Bautzen and two kilometers southwest of the Königswartha community center. The black water runs east of the village ; to the west is a former clay pit that is now used as a forest pool.

The small town consists of two parts that are separated from the former Bautzen – Hoyerswerda railway line , which was operated until 2001. The eastern part of the village is a dead end village in terms of settlement history , the western part, located on the through road, is considered a farming hamlet . The neighboring towns are Königswartha in the northeast, Zescha (municipality of Neschwitz ) in the south and Eutrich in the west.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1600 as Niesendorf . No other name forms are known. Even after the Reformation, the manorial power remained with the Catholic monastery of St. Marienstern , even if the population was already Protestant.

Until April 1, 1936, Niesendorf was an independent rural community; then it was incorporated into Königswartha.
