Kneissl is an Austrian manufacturer of ski and sports articles with headquarters in Kufstein . The company is owned by a holding company owned by Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber . The company produces and sells skis, clothing and accessories as well as tennis rackets and bicycles .
history
The Kneissl company was founded in 1861 as a farm. The first skis were mass-produced between 1919 and 1921. In 1980 the company had to file for bankruptcy for the first time. In 1981, 75% of the company was taken over by the Swiss Hauenstein and 25% by the German-American cross-country ski manufacturer "Trak" and within one year a profit of 5% of the capital employed was achieved. There was another upward trend.
In 1990 Kneissl launched the “Big Foot” ski model. In 1992, through the merger of the Kneissl and Dachstein companies, Kneissl Dachstein Sportartikel AG was founded with its headquarters in Molln . With 320 employees, the company had a turnover of 627 million schillings in 1993/94. In 2003, Kneissl went bankrupt for the second time. The largest shareholders at that time were the BREG Gesellschaft für Bau und Revitalisierung von Hans-Peter Haselsteiner and Erhard F. Grossnigg .
In 2006 production was relocated from Kufstein to the Czech Republic.
At the end of 2010, another bankruptcy petition against Kneissl was averted, but this followed in early 2011.
Realignment from 2008
In 2008 Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber took over the majority in Kneissl through his JJW Hotels & Resorts group of companies. The realignment of Kneissl included establishing up to 70 Kneissl Star Lounges worldwide - a concept for shops and restaurants under one roof - and several Kneissl Star Resort Hotels as a lifestyle brand.
In 2009 the first Kneissl Star Lounge was opened in downtown Innsbruck . A Kneissl Star Lounge built in 2010 in Hochfügen was not occupied. The construction of the announced Kneissl hotel projects has been postponed several times. The plans to establish a ski factory in Kiefersfelden were rejected again.
On January 3, 2011, ex-Kneissl owner Fritz Unterberger, to whom the company owed around € 900,000, filed for bankruptcy. Investor Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber had previously been a long time coming with his promised financial injection of € 1.2 million. Further legal disputes are pending with the Viennese fashion label Susan Strasser and the soccer club FC Wacker Innsbruck .
Despite persistent reports of payment problems and the execution of stored goods in the Kneissl Star Lounge in Innsbruck, Andreas Gebauer is sticking to the 25 million euro hotel project in Stockenboi . At the same time, Gebauer announced a lawsuit against creditors as well as a presentation of the facts to the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office on suspicion of being enriched by a Viennese fashion company. The investigations against the creditor were closed in March 2011.
After Al Jaber continued to wait with promised funds at the end of January 2011, another bankruptcy petition should be negotiated. Managing director Andreas Gebauer therefore had to prove solvency before the Innsbruck Regional Court on February 7, 2011 .
Bankruptcy 2011
On February 8, 2011, managing director Andreas Gebauer filed for bankruptcy after Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber failed to make a capital injection several times . This affects Kneissl Holding GmbH, Kneissl Tirol GmbH and Kneissl Star Lounge GmbH. In an initial statement, Gebauer speaks of a legal claim against Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, who allegedly had signed a corresponding capital increase and was mainly responsible for the insolvency of a large part of the group of companies. The Alpine Accounts Receivable Association accused majority owner Al Jaber of greed. This affirmed not to drop the company. Al Jaber is ready to support the company in a restructuring process. On the same day, the creditor Susan Strasser GmbH announced a statement of facts against managing director Andreas Gebauer at the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office on suspicion of "grossly negligent impairment of creditors' interests", bankruptcy delay and fraudulent crime . The Innsbruck public prosecutor's office started the relevant investigations at the end of February 2011 and expanded them to Al Jaber's daughter in June .
The total debt was estimated at 16.4 million euros. In June 2011, a restructuring plan that had already been negotiated failed because Al Jabers failed to make a payment of 2.1 million euros. In July production at the Kufstein location was stopped, and in October the concept of the holding company Friends of Sports (behind which the Franconian sporting goods retailer Kramer Elastics GmbH stands with a balance sheet total of around 2.5 million euros) was awarded the contract. However, the final financing concept was not yet fixed and Al Jaber was among the bidders for the insolvent company and made a down payment, but owed the remaining purchase price. However, the takeover by Friends of Sports could not be fixed in time for the 2011/12 winter season due to ongoing negotiations in November. After the purchase price of 1.7 million euros had not yet been received in December, the creditors' meeting was presented with a new restructuring plan, which was to be decided by January 2012. At the beginning of January 2012, Al Jaber deposited 1.98 million euros for the insolvency quota, with the acceptance of the restructuring plan by the creditors, Kneissl was discharged at the end of January 2012 with payment of the quota of 20% and Al Jaber's JJA Beteiligungsverwaltungs GmbH became the sole owner.
