Dachstein is a brand name owned by the Finnish company Lutha Sportswear. Dachstein offers mountain boots , hiking boots , sports shoes and casual shoes.
history
In 1925 the shoemaker Anton Lintner founded a shoemaker's shop in Molln ( Upper Austria ) and gave the company the name Dachstein , based on the highest mountain in Upper Austria and Styria.
In 1954 the industrial production of ski boots and mountain boots started , all of them made of leather. Around 1970, experiments were carried out with polyurethane and the Concord type was created with a jet support (= higher shaft end at the back) and an almost full-surface support of around 1 mm thick, yellow polyurethane on the shaft.
Around 1972 the first ski boot made of a solid yellow plastic shell was created, classic with an expansion slot at the front and a tongue, in two versions, one with an extremely high, distinctive jet support. This type of shoe had two completely new features on the sole: it had parallel side edges at the bottom, which, thanks to the almost right-angled cross-section and flat surfaces, made it possible to ski down a slope on hard-pressed snow with only your shoes using the edges. The only indentations in the otherwise flat underside of the sole were the spaces next to the extra bold letters of the DACHSTEIN lettering on a central longitudinal strip about 40% wide. When walking on the snow that is not too hard, the brand name was imprinted legibly almost as long as the shoe. At the same time, it was easy to remove any snow that might have stuck to the sole before getting into the binding. On the other hand, the slip resistance when walking was poor.
In 1979 the product range was expanded to include cross-country shoes, casual shoes and jogging shoes . In the first half of the 1980s, the Dachstein company was a well-known and successful manufacturer of ski boots for alpine ski racing .
In 1992, Dachstein merged with the Kneissl company to form Kneissl Dachstein Sportartikel AG. In 1998 Kneissl Dachstein Sportartikel GmbH acquired the Swiss ski boot company Raichle Boots AG and renamed the new company Kneissl & friends. In the new brand concept, the Dachstein brand only played a subordinate role. In 2003 Deeluxe Sportartikel GmbH acquired the trademark and distribution rights for Dachstein and launched the first collection in the same year .
In 2013, the Dachstein brand was spun off from Deeluxe Sportartikelhandel GmbH and re-established as Dachstein Outdoor & Lifestyle GmbH. The company has a majority stake in Austro Holding. In 2019, the Finnish group Lutha Sportswear took over 100 percent of Dachstein.
