occupation

Knightwatch is an American drama series that ran on ABC from 1988 to 1989 . Benjamin Bratt , Don Franklin and Calvin Levels played the leading roles .

The short-lived series is about a crime- fighting organization modeled after the Guardian Angels , a New York neighborhood initiative that was in the media at the time.

action

The focus of the plot is the organization Knights of the City . This consists of former gang members fighting crime in their city, led by Tony Maldonado. They practice martial arts and do not carry weapons, and they have their headquarters in the basement of a church. The Knights of the City have to deal with murder, robbery and rape, but also with harassment by the police, the media, or arguments within their own group. Romantic relationships between members are also an issue.

Production and broadcast

Knightwatch was a production by Astor III Productions and MGM / UA Television . From November 10, 1988 to January 19, 1989, nine one-hour episodes were broadcast in the evening program, after which the series was canceled.

reception

John J. O'Connor wrote in the New York Times in 1988 that the first episode was staple food that offered no surprises. The only question is whether one of the young actors has the potential to become a teen idol, which is as possible as with hundreds of other young actors every new television season. What separates the series from the middle-class world of prime-time television, however, is that the characters come from the working class.
