The Knik Glacier is a 40 km long and eight km wide glacier in the Chugach Mountains in Alaska .
Geographical location
The glacier is located 70 km east of Anchorage on the western flank of Mount Marcus Baker . It flows into Lake George and the upper reaches of the Knik River , which flows into the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet .
Until the 1960s, the Knik Glacier grew up to the flank of Mount Palmer in winter and dammed Lake George. Rising water pressure and higher temperatures caused a glacier run every summer , which caused a tidal wave in the Knik River.
